Taiwan Art Space Alliance (TASA) Establishes " Management and Research Center " in 2024

The Taiwan Art Space Alliance (TASA) officially established the Management and Research Center in 2024. This center aims to become a leading research platform focusing on the development of domestic and international artist residency organizations, operational management of arts and cultural organizations, cultural impact, and sustainability in the arts. The establishment of this center marks TASA’s long-term commitment to the development of arts organizations in Taiwan and internationally. Its goals and mission are outlined as follows.

Background and Necessity

As global demand for artist residencies grows and sustainability concerns deepen, arts organizations face challenges in transforming their operational models while considering their long-term social and environmental impacts. Taiwan’s artist residency programs, rich in cultural resources and local creativity, play a pivotal role in advancing residency development.

To address these contemporary challenges, TASA established this specialized research center to provide concrete strategic guidance that meets the critical needs of the artist residency field. The primary objectives of the center are to amplify the social impact of artist residencies and explore ways to localize these programs while ensuring long-term support for sustainable development.

Core Mission

Operational Models for Artist Residencies
The center will explore how to effectively manage artist residency organizations, focusing on financial sustainability, resource allocation, and developing diverse collaborative opportunities. The research will provide actionable guidelines to help organizations achieve best practices, fostering their stable and long-term development.

Cultural and Social Impact
Research will delve into how artist residencies can generate profound social impact, emphasizing the integration of arts with communities, minority cultures, education, and social issues. This research aims to enhance the positive societal influence of the arts and its contribution to social development.

Environmental Sustainability and Artistic Creation
The center will investigate how artist residencies can implement practices such as low-carbon creation, resource reuse, and eco-friendly approaches, embedding sustainability into the arts ecosystem.

Long-term Vision

Becoming a Leader in Asia for Residency and Sustainability Research. TASA is committed to becoming a key research institution in Asia and internationally, promoting professional development within the artist residency field. Taiwan aspires to be a model for artist residency and sustainability research.

Providing Comprehensive Support. The center’s research outputs will not only support residency organizations but also provide decision-making references for policymakers, educational institutions, and cultural advocates. These findings will establish a solid theoretical and practical foundation for the development of Taiwan’s artist residency programs and actively contribute to the formulation and implementation of future arts practices and related policies.
